About the Event

There's a quiet confidence that comes from knowing your food -- where it came from, how it was raised, and how it was prepared.


Not in a complicated way, but in a grounded, practical, back-to-basics approach that brings clarity to a skill many people have simple never been shown. Processing your own chickens is not about adding more to your plate - it's about simplifying it. It's about learning a straightforward, respectful process that transforms uncertainty into capability, and curiosity into confidence.


In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn:

  • A clean, step-by-step method for processing chickens with ease and efficiency.

  • How to create a simple, functional setup that works in real life.

  • The essential tools that make the process smoother - and what's unnecessary.

  • How proper handling influences the quality, texture, and the value of your meat.

  • Why more families are choosing to return to this foundational skill.


This is not about perfection; it's about understanding. It's about doing things well, with intention, and realizing that this process is far more approachable than most people think.


Whether you're ready to raise your own birds or just want to understand how they're raised locally, you'll get a firsthand look at the process from start to finish. It’s a valuable opportunity to learn, ask questions, and decide if this is something you’d like to bring to your family’s table.


There will be an opportunity for hands-on participation. Please bring a lawn chair as this event will be outside, rain or shine.


Class Fee: This class is free for all 2026 ETGC members. For all non-members, the class fee is just $10.


TO VOLUNTEER TO HELP WITH CLASS: Please register for class and follow the directions. Volunteers are required to arrive a half hour early and stay a half hour after class ends.


If you are not a member yet and would like to join, visit ETGC.org, download the membership application, mail it in with the required materials, and join us for an exciting new year of education, skills, and hands-on learning.
