From Pasture to Plate: Comprehensive Pig Raising
Join Will Drake from Drake Farm, along with his family—his wife and children, where raising pigs is their sole passion and expertise. Will and his family dedicate themselves to producing top-quality pigs for both meat and show.
At the Drake Farm, they cover everything from the farrows to the freezer, ensuring that each pig meets the highest standards. They also provide expert guidance on breeding methods, including both artificial insemination and using live boars.
Participants will gain valuable insight into pig raising for both meat and competition, understanding the distinct differences and requirements for each. On the day of the class, Will will bring a live pig, offering attendees a first hand look at these animals.
Will’s daughter, Hannah, brings a wealth of experience to the table. Having competed and won numerous awards in 4-H, FFA, and national shows, and having created the Tennessee Swine Show Skill-a-thon test for exhibitors up to age 21, Hannah’s extensive experience in national arenas ensures that attendees will leave with a better understanding of the competitive pig world.
Note: All classes are free for 2026 ETGC members. Non-members can attend for a nominal fee of $10. If you are not a member yet and would like to join, visit ETGC.org, download the membership application, mail it in with the required materials, and join us for an exciting new year of education, skills, and hands-on learning.
The class will be held at 2552 Lowe Road, at the Real McCoy Farm, located in the historic area of Erasmus, on the outskirts of Crossville, Tennessee, in the southwest corner of Cumberland County.
