Function Stacking: Tying Systems Together to Produce More with Less

Function stacking means designing your homestead so one system helps another, giving you more food, fertilizer, and value while using less effort, space, and time. When rainwater feeds both the garden and chickens, garden scraps feed the chickens, chickens feed you eggs, and chicken manure folds back into the garden, you’re turning separate chores into one smart, inter-connected system.

In other words, one “function” or system plays off and contributes to the other… instead of every part of your property operating on its own with a garden over here, animals over there, water somewhere else, functional stacking weaves them together so they work like a team. The output of one becomes the input of another. Waste becomes resource. Chores become partnerships.

This class will explore how to design your land , whether it’s a backyard, small homestead, or larger property so your systems support each other. Ryan will discuss how stacking functions can reduce work, improve soil, conserve water, and increase productivity without increasing your stress.

Functional stacking isn’t about adding more to your plate…. it’s about arranging what you already have so it works smarter, not harder. When done well, your homestead begins to feel less like a collection of tasks and more like a living ecosystem where everything plays a role.
