About the Event

Attention!!!!  You MUST read below for important information about this glean.

  • This glean is open to members ONLY.  Glean location is 219 Antique Lane, Spring City, TN 37381

  • The glean location is on EASTERN TIME.  The time the glean starts is 8:30 a.m. EASTERN TIME (7:30 a.m. Central time).   Corn needs to be picked in the cool morning hours to avoid an unwanted buildup of starch.

  • DO NOT arrive at the glean location BEFORE 8 a.m.  If you are in the area early, stage at the Dollar General (136 Whites Creek Road, Spring City, TN 37381) down the road from the glean location, then depart for the field on your own at the appropriate time. We typically do not allow members to meet at the glean site so please don't make us regret our decision to do so this time!! This is VERY important!

  • We will need 4 volunteers for 1 hour each. Gleaning can be done after or before volunteering. Arrival time is the same. You will be notified IF you are selected to volunteer. Sign up in registration.

  • For each bucket of corn gleaned, an additional bucket will be gleaned for the farmer’s sale shed.  If a member/family is picking for themselves AND another gleaner member, they must pick a sale shed bucket for each membership.

  • In addition to the sale shed buckets, each member/family will pick ONE bucket for our members who are Unable To Glean.

  • Example: If a membership consists of 3 family members and each family member comes to the glean, they will pick 1 bucket for themselves, 1 bucket for the sale shed, and 1 bucket for the Unable To Glean members.  For each additional bucket, the family will continue to glean a bucket for themselves and a bucket for the sale shed.

  • All children must be supervised by a responsible adult.

  • Pets/Animals are not allowed at ETGC gleans (with the exception of service animals).

  • Please review the ETGC rules:  https://b0903342-72f1-4e99-9873-5232ef63af7f.filesusr.com/ugd/2d5ee7_50c90d30123e4331acaa897ca6eebe12.pdf

  • If this is your first glean, here are some pointers:

    • You will need your own containers for the corn. We have buckets for picking and weighing but the buckets stay with us. If you pick corn in your container, it must be able to hang from the scale for weighing.

    • You WILL get wet... dress accordingly.

    • You may want gloves, hat, boots, and water.

    • There are NO bathroom facilities on site. There is a Dollar General a mile or so down the road.
