About the Event
If you’ve made jam before and wondered what comes next, this class is a perfect introduction to the world beyond sweet preserves.
Join us for a relaxed, beginner friendly workshop where we’ll learn the basics of safe water bath canning while making beautiful bright pink pickled onions from scratch. Along the way, we’ll cover simple pickling brines, jar preparation, safe canning practices, and the difference between pickling and fermentation.
We’ll also have several prepared dishes and samples so you can taste just how versatile pickled onions can be. From burgers and tacos to unexpected farmhouse favorites, you may be surprised how quickly these bright little jars become a refrigerator staple.
And even if you normally turn your nose up at onions, don’t count these out just yet. Pickling completely changes their flavor into something brighter, tangy, slightly sweet, and far more mellow than a raw onion. More than one self proclaimed onion hater has been converted after trying them this way.
This class is free for all 2026 ETGC members. The class fee for non members is $10.
We’ll also have jars of our finished Pickled Pink onions available at the end of class for $2 each for anyone who would like to take one home. This simply helps cover the cost of the jars and ingredients used during the workshop.
Whether you’re brand new to canning or simply ready to try something beyond jam, this class is designed to feel approachable, practical, and hands on.
