About the Event
A good knife is more than a kitchen tool — it’s an extension of the hand. Whether you own heirloom blades or everyday kitchen knives, this class will help you better understand how proper care improves performance, extends the life of your knives, and saves money over time.
Throughout the class, guests will enjoy live demonstrations and discussion covering:
• Knife construction and steel types
• Choosing the right knife for the job
• Proper handling and cutting techniques
• Honing vs. sharpening
• Wet grinding, whetstones, and stropping demonstrations
• Knife cleaning and storage
• Common knife damage and restoration
• Real-world kitchen cutting demonstrations
Jason will also discuss how improper sharpening, storage, and cleaning can quickly ruin expensive knives, while proper maintenance can keep quality blades performing for years.
Professional knife sharpening services will also be available. Guests are encouraged to bring their kitchen knives and drop them off during the class, with sharpening beginning the following Monday.
Sharpening Services:
• $12 for knives up to 6 inches
• $16 for knives over 6 inches
• 10% discount on all knives dropped off during the class
A basic single-grind sharpening option is also available for $8 per knife. However, Jason recommends the three-pass wet grind service for improved edge quality, performance, and longevity. OTECutlery.com
This class is ideal for home cooks, homesteaders, and anyone wanting to better understand and protect the tools they use every day in the kitchen.
