About the Event

Join us for an in-depth tomato class with the Tomato Master himself, Mr. Fred Mullen, University of Tennessee Master Gardener.
He will walks us through what truly makes the difference between an average harvest and a thriving one.
In this class, Fred will cover:
• Choosing the best tomato varieties for success
• Heirloom vs. hybrid — what really matters
• Seeds or seedlings — where to start
• Proper planting methods
• Mulching and why it matters
• Pinching suckers (and when not to)
• Watering and fertilizing correctly
• Troubleshooting common tomato problems
Whether you’re planting your very first tomato or you’ve been growing them for years, you’ll gain practical, research-based insights that can immediately improve your results. Because sometimes the smallest adjustments make the biggest difference in the garden.
Come ready to learn, ask questions, and grow better tomatoes this season.
Class Fee: This class is free for all 2026 ETGC members. Please remember to bring your membership card. For all non-members, the class fee is just $10.
TO VOLUNTEER TO HELP WITH CLASS: Please register for class and follow the directions. Volunteers are required to arrive a half hour early and stay a half hour after class ends.
